This Christmas season, the parishioners of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church demonstrated the spirit of giving through an extraordinary act of generosity. Partnering with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the congregation came together to sponsor 30 children in the foster care system by donating gifts tailored to each child’s wish list.

Driven by their commitment to service and love for their neighbors, the church community mobilized quickly after learning about the opportunity to brighten the holidays for children in need. Parishioners signed up to provide specific gifts, ensuring every child received items that reflected their interests and desires. From toys and clothing to art supplies and books, the gifts were carefully selected and beautifully wrapped, symbolizing the care and thoughtfulness of the donors.
The initiative was led by the church’s outreach ministry, which organized the donation drive and coordinated with DCFS to ensure a seamless process. Parishioners of all ages participated, with families and individuals coming together to fulfill the wish lists. For many, it was a chance to teach younger generations about compassion and the importance of giving back to the community.
On delivery day, a group of volunteers transported the gifts to DCFS, where they were distributed to the children. The recipients, many of whom face significant challenges, expressed immense gratitude, with the gifts bringing smiles and hope during the holiday season.
Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church’s sponsorship of these 30 children reflects their dedication to embodying Christ’s love and sharing His blessings with those most in need.
